36.5/New York Estuary

36.5 / NEW YORK ESTUARY is the culminating work in the series, 36.5 / A Durational Performance with the Sea as well as the culminating event in WoW’s 2020-2022 Triennial. The work, by WoW co-founder, Sarah Cameron Sunde, will be a large-scale global event involving several hundreds of people around the world on September 14, 2022. The live performance will take place in the Cove on the East River where Astoria meets Long Island City in Queens, on Wed, Sept 14, 2022. Sarah will stand in water for 12 hours, 39 minutes, a full tidal cycle, inviting the public to participate by joining her in water and/or marking the passing of hours from shore as “the human clock.” Artist collaborators will create interventions and installations to amplify the performance. Viewing stations around the Cove, on Roosevelt Island and Upper East Side, Manhattan will allow audiences to gather from various viewpoints. More…

Works on Water makes artwork on, in and with the water.

We are artists and curators who work with water in response to the changing climate, increasing urban density, and a burgeoning public awareness of ecological concerns. Our work connects to current economic, political, and global issues and is in conversation with the traditions of Land Art, Public Art, and Performance Art, among others.

We build partnerships

Our voices are stronger when we join them together: as part of our environmental advocacy mission, we are committed to building cross-disciplinary partnerships. We are excited to continue our collaboration with Culture Push and the New York City Department of City Planning to build awareness of the new Comprehensive Waterfront Plan.
